I live in Indiana, Pa. and last week I was on my way to Wexford, Pa when I passed a house with a M-38 setting out in the front yard. A guy was working on his jeep so I stop. He told me his name was Jeep Ed who had a son name CJ. He told me about the club in Butler, Pa. I will try to bring my brother inlaw to a meeting in Saver, Pa. who also has a few old Jeeps. I own a 1948 CJ2. We are both interested in joining your club. Thanks, Keith

Hi:

Just bought a ’49 CJ3A that my son and I are in the process of re-doing. We have it pretty much stripped down but I was wondering if you guys might know a good shop in the area to have the engine re-built. I was hoping to have some one do it who knows the motor well and maybe have valves installed to handle unleaded fuel. We’re just over the border in Ohio, south of Youngstown. Also like info on joining your club.

Thanks
Tom

Bantam Jeep Heritage Festival

Dear Club Officer:

The countdown is on!  The inaugural Bantam Jeep Heritage Festival in Butler, Pa. is just six months away.  Now that the new year has arrived, we hope your members will include this not-to-miss event in their 2011 plans and that your Club might even consider planning a group trip to the Festival.  To learn more about the Festival, please visit our web site.

We hope you will share this most recent update with your members:

Jim Allen to Speak at Event, Host Booksigning
Jim Allen has made the study of four wheel drive history, particularly Jeeps, a life-long passion. Three of his seven published books on automotive and four-wheel drive topics are about Jeeps. He supports this passion by writing for magazines and has published more than 1,500 articles.

We’re excited Jim will be sharing his enthusiasm for Jeeps with our attendees.  He’ll be leading a presentation on Sunday, August 14th that’s sure to be of interest to any Jeep enthusiast.  After his talk, he’ll be signing two of his best-selling books so if you don’t already have a copy of his Jeep 4×4 Performance Handbook or the Four-Wheeler’s Bible, you won’t want to miss the chance to meet Jim and purchase a signed copy of his popular books!

Two Local Wineries To Attend Festival
Are you a wine aficionado?  Find out why Butler County’s wineries have some of the best wines anywhere! Volant Mill Winery and Rustic Acres Winery will give you the opportunity to taste some of their delicious wines during the event.  After trying a few samples, the hardest decision you’ll have to make is how many bottles to take home with you!

Rocks-N-Roost Off-Road Club Supports Jeep Playground
Members of the Rocks-N-Roost Off-Road Club from the northern Pennsylvania area will help make our Jeep Playground more fun.  The club is bringing their own teeter totter for enthusiasts to try out!  Special thanks go out to this group for their support!

Registration Update
Pre-registration is going really well and we’re excited to tell you that so far, Jeep enthusiasts from more than 20 states and even other countries will be at the Festival!  In fact, people from as far away as Florida, Massachusetts, Texas, Illinois, Canada and even India will be in Butler this August!

If you’re planning to come and haven’t yet registered, please consider doing it soon!  Don’t forget that the first 500 paid registrants who participate in the parade will receive a free commemorative dash plaque.  Early registration will help us attract more vendors to the show, which means more deals and information for you to take advantage of!

We’re Building Even More Buzz!
We excited that Festival buzz has been building over the past several months.  Now we’re taking steps to grow it even more.  We’ll be placing advertisements in national magazines including Petersen’s 4 Wheel and Off-Road, JP Magazine, 4WD and Sport Utility, Military Vehicles and Supply Line.  We also have plans in the works to promote the Festival online too.  Google, Facebook, jeepforum.com and more will soon be featuring ads about the event.  Advertisements in the tri-state area also will launch in mid-summer.

The ads are an important part of spreading the word, but your help matters more!  Please post information about the Festival on your favorite forums, club sites, etc.

Want to Know More?
If you’d like to learn more about the event and how you can participate, check out our website.  We’re looking forward to sharing even more exciting updates next month!

Bantam Jeep Heritage Festival

Bantam Jeep Heritage Festival
April 7, 2011
The first ever Bantam Jeep Heritage Festival is just four months away! Here’s what we’ve been working on over the past few weeks:

Time Running Out for Parade Dash Plaques!
We’re over the 400 mark for pre-registered jeeps! That means if you haven’t registered yet and you want your own dash plaque commemorating the Guinness Book record-setting Jeep parade and cruise, don’t delay. Only the first 500 pre-registered and paid Jeeps will receive the plaque. Plaques will be distributed at the Parade check-in. You can register online or by mail. Just remember that we must receive both your registration and payment in order to be considered registered!

Our Sponsors Are Getting Behind the Wheel

Several more companies are helping us present the Festival. We appreciate their support as their involvement is making our big ideas come to life!

The Pennsylvania Army National Guard is sponsoring the Moraine Trail ride, but they’re doing a whole lot more too! They’re bringing some great activities for kids of all ages to enjoy in the Little Jeepers Playground. In addition, they will be bringing some great military vehicles for you to see. Don’t miss checking them out at the event!

Altmire Allstate Agency of Butler is presenting the How-To Clinic Stage. We’ll have a full schedule of presentations on Saturday and Sunday. Whether you are a new Jeep owner or have been driving your Jeep for decades, you’re sure to learn something new. We hope to have a schedule posted on the website by mid-summer.

SRU equals VIP. That’s because Slippery Rock University is presenting our VIP Tent at the Saturday night concert. We appreciate their support!

More Vendors Planning to Attend

Three more companies are making plans to be at the Festival and share all of their great Jeep merchandise. Make plans to stop by and talk to the folks from:

Rusty’s Off-Road Products
Adventurous 4×4
MAC Army Navy Surplus

Spring Thaw Means Trails Are Being Cut

A team from Meridian Off-Road Center began cutting in the on-site trails at the Butler County Fairgrounds. Two stock trails and one modified trail will give drivers a taste of what it’s like to take their Jeep off-road. The trails are being presented by 4WD Hardware and the folks from Rausch Creek Off-Road Park will be managing the rides. Sounds like a fun time!

Mountain Jeep Jam May 7th at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort Off-Road Driving Academy

If you’re looking for a new place to go wheeling next month, then make plans to attend the first-ever Mountain Jeep Jam at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort’s Jeep Off-Road Driving Academy. The day includes two hours of off-road trail driving on more than 20 miles of rugged terrain. Live music, vendors and beer and liquor tasting add to the fun. Trail ride costs $125 per jeep and includes two hours of drive time. Learn more here.

Got Jeep Stuff to Sell?

If you have a garage full of used jeep parts, etc., then make some money at the Festival! We’re calling our swap meet area the Jeep Trading Post. 10×20 and 20×40 spaces are available for individuals who have used parts to sell. Register for your space by completing our Merchandise and Parts Vendor Form. You’ll find Trading Post details on page 3.

The Jeeps Are Coming!
We can’t wait for your Jeep to roll into Butler this summer. But before yours

arrives, 70 special Jeeps will make their debut in late June. It’s all part of Butler Downtown’s Bantam Jeep Community Art Project. Seventy wooden, two-dimensional relief sculptures that depict a Bantam Jeep will undergo decorating and transformation at the hands of area artists and individuals. The project is patterned after similar public art projects such as Pittsburgh’s Dinosaurs, Erie’s Fish and Cleveland’s Guitars. The Jeeps will be on public display through Labor Day so you can check them out when you come for the Festival. Would you like to support the effort? You can purchase your own jeep too. Learn more at

Butler Downtown.

Want to Know More?

If you have questions about our event, want to pre-register or just haven’t visited for awhile, then take some time to check out our website. We’re adding new information every month!

About the Bantam Jeep Heritage Festival
The Bantam Jeep Heritage Festival is organized by the Butler County Tourism & Convention Bureau and a group of committed volunteers and Jeep enthusiasts who want to create a signature annual event celebrating Butler, Pa.’s role as the birthplace of the jeep. The Festival will take place in Downtown Butler and at the Butler County Fairgrounds along Route 422, just west of Butler. Our goal is to create a premier annual event that attracts Jeep enthusiasts from all over the Mid-Atlantic region.

Jo Annette Cynkar

Hello,

I believe Tim McCrackin has sent an email requesting contact info for our Harmony Business Association Community Day to be held June 18th. Having spoken to Tim last night it is clear he does not have the time to follow up with this very important event for us. As the President of the Harmony Business Association, I was wondering if I would be allowed to attend your next meeting with information on our event? We were hoping to get a nice group of Jeep owners out for the day, and if possible, to have them do “jeep games” as the Tourism office has told me some of your members do. Please contact me at your earliest convenience to set this up. We are doing a “anything that rolls” contest that day as well with a “jeep” theme and we would really love to have the Jeeps there that day. I can be reached at 724-452-5509 (Harmony Museum Shop). Thank you so much for your help.

Just wanted to pass on, for those that did not know, that Rich Sulecki from up in Weedville, a long time Jeep lover and enthusiast had a severe stroke Monday morning.
We are doing a benefit Jeep ride, dice run, dinner, and oldies dance on November the 5th at the Jeep in, in Weedville.
Rich is in bad shape and can use all the help he can get.
Hope to see as many as possible there.

11 10 2011
flatfcob

I am very sorry to hear the bad news. Let’s hope he can recover soon from this. He is definitely a jeep lover and an exceptional enthusiast that has served as inspiration for many of us. I will pass the news to Dave, so he can forward the event information to the email list. Let’s try to get a big group together for Novemeber 5th. Our thoughts are with him and his family. Please let us know any way we can help.

11 10 2011
brian

let us know when you have a time picked. i’m sure i can gather a few people.

11 10 2011
Buddy Nesbitt

Thanks a lot for the kind words and I will pass it on.
Everything will be starting at 10:00 AM on November 5th.
We are going to have couple nice rides that we will be asking a $10 per person donation for but one of Jeep Inn Jeff’s awesome fried chicken dinners is included.
We are drumming up donations for trail gear, etc. that will be given away at drawings, raffles, etc.
Everything made will be going into the fund to try and help cover Rich’s personl needs.
He is in bad shape and at this time a full recovery is not expected and would be nothing short of a miracle.
This is going to be a long hard journey and everyone is just hoping for the best.
For those interested he is in HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital in Erie.
If anyone would like any more info, please just let me know.
Thanks a lot folks.
There are just no better people in the world than Jeepers.

Is there a meet up place set yet ? so for 10$ we get a ride, and chicken? ! wow good deal. i’ll help pass the word 🙂

11 10 2011
Buddy Nesbitt

Yeah, $10 gets a ride and a one of Jeff’s kick a** chicken dinners. Darn good deal in my opinion.
Registration, etc. will be starting at 10:00 AM
Everyone on this end is donating everything and not even taking their cost out. All proceeds are being donated.
As I mentioned before there are going to be at least 2 different rides. One will be for bone stock and will be just a nice kick back and enjoy it cruise where as the other will be strap in, lock it low and lets go.
Optional dice throws will be done during the rides for a small donation with a 50 percent payout.
An Elk viewing ride may also held later in the day depending on interest.
There will be drawings, etc. during the day as well as a DJ Oldies dance to follow.
Other drinks, food and refreshments will also be available at the JeeppInn.
It should be a great time for a good cause.

There is also camping available locally.

I should be mention that for the underpriveliged that do no own a Jeep, you are welcome to attend as well but we can not be held responsible for your or your vehicles safety.
We always look at events such as this as a way of showing those that are Jeepless what they’re missing.
Thanks again folks.

BantamJeep Festival

Hey all you Jeepers! Check this out!

Dear Jeep Club Members:

It’s hard to believe the inaugural Bantam Jeep Heritage Festival was just three months ago! Our Planning Committee and partners spent two years planning the event and the response we received was overwhelming! If you haven’t heard, 1,106 Jeeps participated in the parade to attempt a Guinness World Record, an estimated 35,000 people came to Downtown Butler to see the Jeeps and more than 20,000 people make their way to the Big Butler Fairgrounds to enjoy all of the Festival activities. It was an exciting time, we’ve received tremendous feedback and we can’t wait to do it all over again!

We’re excited to tell you that we have finalized the dates for our 2012 Festival. The event will be August 10-12, 2012. We hope you’ll mark your calendar and consider making plans to join us next year for the fun weekend we are planning in Butler, Pa., birthplace of the world’s original jeep.

Our Planning Committee has been very busy the past two months working on the details for our 2012 event. We are just starting to rebuild our web site http://www.bantamjeepfestival.com/ for the 2012 event, and we hope to have new information posted in the next few weeks. Next, we plan to have registration on line shortly after that so be sure to keep checking your email and Facebook http://www.facebook.com/pages/Bantam-Jeep-Heritage-Festival/171755302841044 for updates.

New Video of 2011 Festival Available for Purchase

We also wanted to let you know that we have just completed a new video featuring the 2011 Festival. The video includes a five-minute overview of the entire event, Armstrong’s Faces & Places television show featuring the event and including interviews from various participants, and footage of the entire Jeep Parade as the Jeeps began their three-mile drive. More details are available in our on line Store http://www.bantamjeepfestival.com/store/. All proceeds from the video will be deposited into a special account that has been established to preserve Bantam heritage. Remember, these videos will make great Christmas gifts!

Proud owner of a 1950 willys Jeepster. Two of your members stopped
by Chuck’s shop today and saw my willys waiting to have a new soft top installed. I would like to come to one of your meetings in Sarver but need more details on location. Address would be good and phone
number helpful too. My Willy’s and I were in the Butler Bantum Parade
in 2011. WOW!! Can’t wait to do it again this year. Looking forward to meeting members. Tootsie

Hey guys long time Jeeper frst time flat fender owner here. I’ve been a member of HRJA on and off for years, depending on if I have a Jeep at the time. Well I just picked up a 1946 CJ2A and its fairly solid. The floors, hat chanels, cowl, cowl support etc are all good. The fenders, hood and front lower rockers neeed some work, some rust but mostly from years of farm use. She was originaly Normandy blue with sunset red wheels, but I plan on paiting it O.D. and possibly converting to a MB front end (grill, fedners, and hood). Since I need new front rockers I will have the ones with the tool indents welded in also.
Thanks
Keith

Sebastian,
Got the email and thanks!! Getting used to posting here is differant since its not you typical forum type set up. I look forward to meeting you guys at a meeting sometime soon. I have been working on the CJ2a all week got a lot of the junk stripped off of it, its going out to get painted next month. I’m at a crossroads now. I would love to take the tub off for blasting but I have never attempted remving the body tub off of a Jeep. I knw there isn’t much wiring, and I plan to order a new Walck’s wiring harness and install it this spring.

Hi!
I met a Gentleman at Coopers Lake on June 20 at the Jeep display, he had a shirt on with the Flat Fender Club logo so I inquired on how to join the club. I live between Chicora and East Brady, so I do not have far to travel. I own a 46 Willys CJ2A, and I am rebuilding a CONVERTO AIRBORNE DUMP TRAILER at the moment. I am 1 1/2 years until retirement, and I work shifts, so making every meeting may be impossible, but I would like to get involved with your club. Please send an email address so I can mail pics.
Thanks!

As of right now I am ‘Willys-less’ but I do have 2 Bantam trailers. I like to restore and recondition these trailers and Jeeps back to working order and send them off to better homes where they won’t rust away. E-mail : Math9@aol.com

Dave Hasler

Hello…Dave Hasler here from western NY about 35 miles south of Rochester. I’d like to join your club and maybe pick someones brain now and then for info regarding the restoration of a 1948 Willys Jeep Truck. I’m in need of some good reference material of the configuration of the engine compartment etc. I bought the manuals but they don’t show it very clearly. Sort of confused since the carb is on the right (pass side). It doesn’t help that the previous owned stripped almost everything off it and tossed it all in boxes…along with 1949 Jeep Truck parts too!!! What a puzzle!!!
Thanks very much!!!
Dave
